Epoxy Zinc-Rich Coating
Overview
Epoxy Zinc-Rich Coating is a high-performance zinc-rich epoxy coating designed to provide long-term corrosion protection for steel. It offers electrochemical protection, excellent adhesion, high mechanical strength, and good water and salt spray resistance for steel exposed to industrial and marine environments.
Introduction
Epoxy Zinc-Rich Coating is a zinc-rich epoxy primer designed for long-term corrosion protection of steel substrates. It is formulated with epoxy resin and zinc powder, together with a suitable curing agent, to provide electrochemical protection and a strong, durable coating film.
Designed for abrasive-blasted steel surfaces, the coating provides good resistance to water and salt spray and can be used in medium to severely corrosive environments. It is suitable for long-term general-purpose anti-corrosion coating systems where high performance and practical application are required.
Features
Electrochemical Protection
The zinc-rich formulation provides electrochemical protection for steel substrates, helping protect steel against corrosion in demanding service environments.
Strong Adhesion
Provides excellent adhesion to properly prepared steel substrates, helping maintain coating integrity during long-term service.
High Mechanical Strength
The coating film provides high mechanical strength for durable protection of steel surfaces.
Water Resistance
After 30 days of exposure to a 3% sodium chloride solution at 25°C, the coating film showed no change in appearance.
Salt Spray Resistance
The coating demonstrated 1,000 hours of salt spray resistance, with the coating film remaining intact.
High Solids Content
The coating provides approximately 85% weight solids content, supporting protective coating applications with a relatively high solids formulation.
Temperature Resistance
Under dry conditions, the coating can withstand temperatures of up to 140°C for periodic exposure and 160°C for intermittent exposure.
Two- or Three-Component System
The product is available in both two-component and three-component configurations, with the three-component system incorporating a separate zinc powder component.
Key Application
Epoxy Zinc-Rich Coating is designed for steel substrates requiring long-term corrosion protection, particularly in industrial and marine environments.
Industrial Steel Structures
For steel structures exposed to medium to severely corrosive industrial environments.
Marine Steel Structures
For steel structures exposed to marine climates and corrosive atmospheric conditions.
Industrial Equipment
For properly prepared steel equipment requiring long-term anti-corrosion protection.
Steel Pipelines
For steel pipeline surfaces as part of a compatible multi-layer corrosion protection system.
Steel Facilities & Infrastructure
For steel facilities and infrastructure requiring long-term general-purpose corrosion protection.
Q&A
What surface preparation is required?
The steel surface should be clean and dry, with grease, welding spatter, sharp edges, and other surface defects properly treated. Abrasive blasting should achieve Sa 2.5 cleanliness.
How long is the induction period?
After mixing, the coating requires approximately 10 minutes of induction time at 25°C before application.
Can it be applied behind an insulating layer?
No. According to the product instructions, the zinc-rich primer should not be used behind an insulating layer.
How long can the product be stored?
Under cool, ventilated, and dry storage conditions, the product can be stored for 12 months in its original packaging.
